The company also denied the news that about 1,500 engines made for the Kwid had been scrapped due to high levels of engine noise. A report in the Times of India had said earlier that not a single unit of the Kwid, which currently has a waiting period of over five months in the country, had been made since May 11.Meanwhile, the Kwid, which made its market entry in September last year, scored zero star in a crash test conducted by global safety watchdog Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). Renault Kwid was tested in three versions and all received zero ratings in adult occupant protection.The Kwid has become a huge success in India with over 1.25 lakh bookings so far. It is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol motor, which is tuned to churn out 53bhp at 5,678rpm and a peak torque of 72Nm at 4,386rpm, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, and returns an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl.
