Message: <blockquote data-quote="rocksan" data-source="post: 1757771" data-attributes="member: 76711">Two personnel from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) have seized the accreditation cards of a ‘Swarnavahini’ camera crew that went to cover an illegal land filling in Kotte today (Apr. 02nd). When contacted, Programme Manager of the channel Shan Wijetunga said that accompanied by a cameraman, he had gone to Samarakoon Park near Ananda Balika Vidyalaya this afternoon, following information about the unlawful act. Owned by the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, the reservation area was the scene of attempted reclamation by certain persons on several previous occasions as well, Wijetunga told ‘Lanka Dissent.’ When the ‘Swarnavahini’ crew was taking footage of the incident, two persons, claiming to be from the police, had come to the place and demanded them to produce their accreditation cards. Wijetunga had in turn, requested them to show their IDs, which they had refused, this time saying that they were from the MSD. They had also rejected a request by the ‘Swarnavahini’ crew to return their media IDs, and insisted to wait until the arrival of a higher official. Later, one of the MSD personnel had shown his identity card. Since they had refused to return the accreditation cards, Wijetunga and his cameraman had left the location and lodged a complaint with the Mirihana Police.
