Royal College were made to fight hard before registering a 30 points (1 goal 4 tries, 1 penalty) to 3 (a penalty) win over Dharmaraja College in their schools under 20 Division One rugby tournament game at the Bogambara Stadium. Royal led 5-3 at half time.
The Rajans could have restricted the Royalists to a lesser score had they not resorted to aimless kicking thus wasting possession. Their defence too left much to be desired, especially at crucial stages.
Dharmaraja opened scoring early in the game through a 35 meter penalty put over by stand off Indrajith Wickremanayake. They held on to this lead until the 36th minute of the first half when Royal planted their first try through skipper and stand off Naren Dhason which was unconverted.
But in the second half the Rajans defence cracked up to concede 25 more points through tries scoredby winger Chamara Dabare (2), lock forward Ranga Perera (1) and Hamza Hassen (1) with replacement full back Mushin Faleel goaling onetry and converting the penalty.
