Lankan workers get jobs in Israel
Sri Lankans will be able to seek employment as agricultural labourers in Israel with over US dollars 1000 as wages a month according to a decision arrived at a meeting between Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and an Israel official yesterday.
The decision was taken at a discussion held at the Agriculture Ministry at Battaramulla between Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and the Political Affairs officer of the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi Itay Tagner.
Mr. Tagner at the discussion had stated that all the labourers sent from Sri Lanka each will get a wage of US dollars 1000 a month. In addition he had said that the labourers will be insured according to the existing laws in Israel.
Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that at the discussion it was agreed that the labourers will be sent for a period of six months.
For Sri Lankan labourers going to Israel it was agreed that a good knowledge of new agro-technology will be given in that country, the Minister said. The labourers gaining new knowledge in Israel will be passed on to the Sri Lankan farmers once they return to the country.
