UPFA activists had obstructed polling observation by JVP candidate Dhammika Jayawardena in Anuradhapura, the party said.
Led by the deputy chairman of the Galnewa Pradeshiya Sabha and his brother, the ruling party supporters had come in two vehicles to the Galnewa polling booth and interfered with his work.
However, the group had fled the scene when voters had intervened.
Mr. Jayawardena has lodged a complaint with Galnewa Police, after which its OIC and a SSP have provided him protection to continue with his observation work.
