With the SAARC Summit scheduled to be held in Colombo the face lift that is to showcase Sri Lanka to the outside world has evicted the people living in the unauthorized buildings in Slave Island. However the residents obtained a stay order from the Supreme Court forcing the UDA to suspend the demolition till Tuesday(22). Trains services resume between Slave Island and Fort

(UPDATE2) - Train services suspended between Slave Island and Fort due to the tensed situation after the UDA disregarded a Supreme Court order and went ahead to demolish what they called 'unauthorised' houses on Friday evening resumed after a two hour delay.
The tension continues, though the trains resumed and more army has been sent into the area.
Earlier Daily Mirror Journalist Yohan Perera was assaulted by persons said to be UDA officials.
Residents have vowed to stayon.
Residents earlier in the day filed a Fundamental Rights Petition and the SC order that the eviction of the residents should be stayed until Tuesday, but UDA official claiming they had not got a court directive went ahead with the demolition.
Lawyers brought certified copies to the scene and showed the UDA officials, but they were not willing to accept the order claiming it had not been officially communicated to them.
Ruhunu Kumari blocked at Slave Island

The Ruhunu Kumari train which left Maradana this evening for Matara was blocked at Slave Island by protestors whose homes were demolished by the UDA this morning.
The area remains tense with the Police standing by in the area.
Train services limited on coastal line

All inbound trains on the coastal line to Colombo have been halted temporarily due to the commotion that has erupted due to the move by the UDA to demolish a large number of unauthorized structures in the Slave Island area along the railway track.
However the outbound trains will operate on a single line.
Many of the residents whose houses were demolished have placed their belongings on the railway track.

Daily Mirror journalist Yohan Perera and staff photographer Pradeep Dilrukshana have been assaulted by officials of the Urban Development Authority(UDA) while they were at the Slave Island demolition site covering the incident.
Clash between UDA and residents, Police use teargas
A clash had occurred between the UDA officials and the residents of the unauthorized buildings in Slave Island. Police had used teargas to disperse the mob.
Demolition resumed
The demolition of the unauthorized buildings in Slave Island has been resumed. The UDA claims to not have received any written notification for suspension.
