Puravidya Charawarthi Ven.Ellawala Medananda Thera
Speaking in parliament yesterday (03rd) Ven. Medananda Thera - Leader JHU, pointed out that the Northern and Eastern provinces have been rescued from the LTTE clutches to a great extent.
But the preservation of the sacred places in these areas should be carried out. Most of the temples in the North are located in the villages. There is evidence of Buddhism flourishing in these areas in the past.
He further said Vedichinalimalay and Kurundanmalay in Mullatuv districs are sacred places for Buddhists, in Kadurugoda there are more than 40 dhagabas. All these should be developed as sacred places.
“Armed Forces have a responsibility to ensure security of the civilians. It may disturb the day to day lives of the people, but these things so happen as a result of LTTE leader’s brutal activities. Therefore we cannot complain but bear with the situation,” remarked Ven. Medananda Thera.
