It was failed due to the performance issues. Because they thought people will buy new H/W to use the new OS but it always the other-way around. take Galaxy S i9000 its just 2 years old and won't officially support beyond android 2.3. Even with a custom ICS its a little bit laggy. However MS released WP 7.5 update for every WP 7 handset and it was faster than WP7 Like they did with Win 7. And almost every WP 1st generation handsets will have the WP7.8 update. So the concept was to keep the H/W requirements as minimum as possible so they could let more people to use their OS on existing H/W. Still its too early to make conclusions in IOS vs Android vs WP8. However we can see a nice battle/competition between them in near future.</blockquote>
