President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in a live television interview a short while ago avoided commenting on reports that General Sarath Fonseka may enter politics.
When asked to comment on the reports the President said all he knows is that General Fonseka is a serving high ranking military official.
Meanwhile Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said those who attempted to create instability during the war are the very same people who are spreading false claims relating to military officials.

The President is correct. He should not respond to rumors! In the near future, he will respond to all! Nothing to worry! General Sarath Fonseka is not going to sleep with dogs!
There is nothing to comment, as these are all SPECULATIONS by the disgruntled parties (having lost many a time) to create uncertainty among people! The President is a well-matured personality, who led the war against terrorism in a very diplomatic way, bypassing all obstacles created by traitors! But,one thing is certain, if S.F. contests the Presidency, he will become a ZERO from a HERO: for if not for M.R.'s great leadership, S.F. too wouldn't have become a HERO!
Dear SF you were very lucky to be the army commander under MR leadership. It is simple and clear that no one can win the upcoming presidential election against MR. MR deserves to rule the country for another 7 years. MR will get over 70% in presidential election regardless of who the other candidates are.

(1)MR is a strategist of no mean order. Being what in reality he is, it is certainly naive for anyone to expect him to get involved in a futile endeavour like commenting on the SF saga at this stage. (2) As a citizen of Sri Lanka, SF has an inalienable right to enter the political arena and contest for presidency, if that were his considered wish, but of course not whilst he is still serving in the defence establishment. Whether it is prudent for him to walk that path is yet another matter that is undoubtedly highly debatable.(3) If SF were to be the common presidential candidate sponsored by all opposition parties, that would cast the present main opposition party,namely, the UNP which is also the oldest party in Sri Lanka, in an adverse and depressing reflection indeed. This is for the reason that the agreement to go along with a common candidate simply implies that either the party does not possess proper presidential material within the current leadership hierarchy or there is general acceptance that there is no clear chance of winning the presidency if the party were to present its own candidate going it alone. A sad situation, either way!

Once you get togather with the group of traitors and sepratists you will become an easy victim of the anti Sri Lankan elements (LTTE + Foreign Intelligence). They will use one of the remaining suicide bombers to get rid of you. Then Ranil will be very happy as that promote him to Presidental candidate since he really hates you. Same time such attack will make people suspicous about MR dividing his vote base which is a bonus for Ranil. Ranil and anti Sri Lankan forces are waiting to take revenge from you and Mahinda, Gota etc. Even if you win they will plot to kill you and pro US and pro evanjalic Ranil would be in power. If you don't win then you will become a zero from hero since you would loose people's respect aas well as this bogus love from anti Sri Lankan sepratists. Any of the above case would make Mahinda unstable as well. This is the master plan of US led anti buddhist evanjalic elements. This is the greatest conspiracy. Please don't get into this trap.... How come the leader of a country can lose the Army Chief just after winning a 30year old war with most fearful terrorist group in a world. President's inability to get the support of this Great War hero is a big question for president himself, so obviously President doesn’t know what to say. This is like for example Arjuna Ranatunga loosing the support of Aravida's right after winning the cricket world cup....(luckily nothing like that happened)but had it happened how would have Ranatunga justified such action???? There were dozens of Army Chiefs served during Elam Wars. All were highly trained Army Officers. Their duty was to protect the country. When the command comes they were supposed to carry out it. Otherwise they were just Ceremonial Persons. See what happened this time. There were JRs, Premadasas, Chandrikas, Ranils all were ruling, but never gave a proper command. Once foreign power came to the scene they commanded to stop the war and go to ceasefire. But this time it was different Government Leadership was very firm. They never changed when even super power came and obstructed the war. It is true that General Fonseka has driven the war in the correct path. That is his duty and skill. If he did not do it properly he would have been kicked off. Every Army Chief so far had the same skill , problem was there was no proper command. So he is another Army Chief. But a Supreme War Hero Politicos like Ranil are now trying to give a special decoration to the General and trying to drag him into the politics and use him as a tool to come to the power. It is the Reality.

A president full of diplomacy. All members of sahodara samagama are very professional. Finally the sahodara samagama became the blesssing to our motherland. We are not fools to lose them.
If Ranil is the leader of a major party he should have the guts to face the president without hiding behind Sarat Fonseka. On the other hand if Sarath Fonseka is going to contest the presidential election he can come out in the open without making the whole nation to guess! I don't think that the president is bothered about the candidate who is going to contest him. Ranil or Sarath or both.. the confusion is in the opposition not in the government.
To Be or Not To Be.. that is the question...
That is the way to go Mr. President. be wise and be strong. people are with you. you did your part to the country and people know it. Thats why most of them scared to contest against you.
why should he comment.he knows that we know that gen. fonseka would enter politics,but g.e. as a slfp candidate.
President knows he will have to face SF at the next presidential elections as a civilian so it was better to avoid the question
