Common opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka handed over his nominations this morning for the Presidential Elections to be held next year. His nomination papers were handed over to the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayaka at the Elections Secretariat.
An objection to Gen (retd) Sarath Fonseka’s nominations that he was a US citizen was overruled by the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayaka. Mr. Dissanayaka asked whether there was documentary proof, but Mr. Sarath Kongahage who is also a candidate and raised the objection said it was public knowledge.
But, the Commissioner said that matter would have to be resolved in Courts. The nomination of candidate Nelson Perera was rejected while another objection of another candidate was overruled
