Save the Children, NGO, operated from UK has denied supplying boats to LTTE, when Special Task Force found two boats with the name and logo of "Save the Children" in a overrun camp of LTTE by STF.
Save the Children,(STC) in Sri-Lanka, issued a statement where they said that it is a charitable organization which advocates for the rights of children and works to strengthen the structures and mechanisms which advance and protect these rights and provide humanitarian assistance in emergencies.
The local organization added that they believe that these two boats were stolen in Feb. 2006 and that they have reported to the local authorities concerned. Further it is not possible to prevent these incidents as they have no control over LTTE actions.
Local "STC" has provided 400 boats to "Fisherman" families affected during tsunami in Batticoloa and Ampare, on humanitarian grounds.
Based on what "STC" has expressed I wish to find out from this local branch whether they have seriously taken any measures to oversee and prevent "Child " conscription by LTTE which is a well known to all the Tamils in Sri-Lanka and others here, during the last two decades. If they have done nothing regarding this serious human right violation, then they have done a serious blunder.
Under the present circumstances the UK authorities too have contributed to this mess. They cannot pretend to be deaf, dumb and blind. Thus, GOSL has to immediately investigate to determine whether "STC" branch has become a "Save the Tigers" NGO.
