Scientific Accuracy of the Qur’an Amazes University of Toronto Professor

This message is based on an article entitled “Highlights of Human embry-ology in the Quran and Hadith” by Dr. Keith Moore, Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Department, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, 1982.

Dr. Moore points out that the study of how the human embryo develops in the mother’s womb could not progress significantly without the use of microscopes. Microscopes were not invented until the 17th century C.E., and were not used in this field of study until the 18th century. Therefore, when Dr. Moore studied certain statements in the Qur’an on this subject, he remarked, “I was amazed at the scientific accuracy of these state-ments which were made in the 7th century C.E.,”

The Qur’an in 39:6 states that God made us in the wombs of our mothers in stages. Dr. Moore comments: “The realization that the embryo devel-ops in stages in the uterus was not proposed until the 1759, and the stages used nowadays were not adopted worldwide until the late 19th & early 20th century C.E.”

Furthermore, he says: “The idea that development results from a genetic plan contained in the chromosomes of the zygote was not discovered until the end of the 19th century C.E. The verse from the Koran [80:18] clearly implies that the nutfa (i.e. the initial drop of fluid) contains the plan or blueprint for the future characteristics and features of the developing human being.”

The Qur’an 23:12-16 indicates that there is a lag or a gap between two of the early stages of growth. How does that compare with modern scien-tific knowledge? Remarkably! Says Dr. Moore: “It is well established that there is a lag or a delay in the development of the embryo during the implantation… The agreement between the lag or gap in development mentioned in the Qur’an and the slow rate of change occurring during the second or third week is amazing. These details of human development were not described until about 40 years ago.”

Finally, Dr. Moore concludes by saying that the agreement he has found in the Qur’anic statements “may help to close the gap between science and religion which has existed for so many years.”
The above evidence shows that the Qur’an must be from God as it claims. The Qur’an says that you and every human being should consider this book with care. Had it been from anyone other than God, you would have found much discrepancy in it. (4:82).

Dear OptiplexFx

This is not my field therefore it is not possible for me to answer your question and also i have only given the view point of by Dr. Keith Moore, Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Department, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto.this doctor is not a muslim but only give his view point after his search. You Have not given any prove that the statement he has given is false but only copy a statement from the link you have given and paste it here. the statement you copy is only a personal comments not proof.
and more is brother we have seen that the scientific statements and research has been changing after every decade from begining.one scientist come, he make a theory and after year another make it false and give new theory.like theory about the circulation of earth and sun and about shape of earth. As Our Quran is to the end of universe, and it has reached to lthe maturity therefore its discussion sometime oppose the science. therefore we can not say God's Words are incorrect but we will say man's words and search has not reached to its maturity and in the way to advancements therefore it may be incorect..
if you read the quran you will conclude these could not be the man's world after seeing the topic it discuss 1400 year before.

What ever position Dr Keith Moore had doesn’t really matter if his findings can be disproven by simple logic and common sense. I don’t know much about this subject either, but that document I linked explains the problems in Moore's statements. Doesn't matter who wrote it, if the references to the Quran in that text is correct, then rest of the argument is based on logical reasoning. Anyone can read and understand.

Most of the so called scientific explanations of Quran are based on few randomly selected loosely translated phrases with multiple meanings. Therefore I'm sure if you look hard enough, you can come up with your own interpretations to just about everything.

One thing I don't understand though, is why you guys constantly try to explain Quran with science when the most fundamental ideas of Quran contradict modern science (i.e theory of evolution vs Creationism ). ??

dear Dr. Keith Moore, give his personal research while comparing it with Quran verses with prove it is also so simple to understand.i say it again that we cant say a modern medical science has reached to its maturity stage it is in the way to progress so if any verse of Quran don't ressemble to today research we can't say verse is false, it may be possible that in future man research could reached also to other stages where it has not reached todays.

second you say

the most fundamental ideas of Quran contradict modern science (i.e theory of evolution vs Creationism ). ??

the problem is that we only believe on every science theory we don’t think it may be false or true. We can’t say every science theory is correct as it is only a assumption not reality.when scientist start search they try their best to reach to the point when they don’t reached they assume about that like theory of darwans and big bang all are far from reality and only assumptions. The theories of modern science about evolution vs creationism are challaged in every decade and different assumption comes after every decade. And now we can’t say modern science has prove it’s theory at all.

if you personaly compare quranic idea with modern scince you will find quranic idea nearer to common sense

dear Sailani

thanx you for apreciation.

our Allah says in quran which mean nearly to this
that when give dawah we should be polide, have patience and use hikmaah. Giving Dawah to Non muslim is not difficult the problem is that the western and european media has present and try to disgrace islam in the way that has created so misconception and misunderstanding about islam. The people listen, read and see all their media therefore there is the image in the mind of non muslim that perhaps islam is a terrorist, dogmas and self created religion. You know this all are misconception.

i could not change the mind of any person but only can try to remove these misconception and only the Allah can show the right path,

one more thing which i want to say to you if you don't mind is your signature.your signature can give good benefits in pure islamic forum, you know this is not a pure islamic forum so try to use signature which give good message to all type of person. i hope u will not mind my suggesstion
