Sea battle erupts south of Delft

SL Navy fast attack boats this morning (December 26) engaged decisive strikes at a cluster of LTTE boats in seas south of Delft, Naval sources say.

According to latest information, Navy fast attack craft are continuing strikes at the LTTE cluster consisting 16 boats, sources further revealed.

12 Fast Attack Craft of Sri Lanka Navy confronted LTTE boats attempting to transport arms to the terrorists off DELFT island today (26). 16 LTTE boats were attacked by 12 Fast Attack craft of the Sri Lanka Navy. During the confrontation which lasted 4 – 5 hours, 04 LTTE attack craft were completely destroyed by the Navy. Sri Lanka Air Force provided air support with the help of MI 24 helicopters to the Navy.

During the confrontation Colombo Dockyard built Navy Fast Attack Craft was damaged due to the explosion of 02 LTTE Suicidal boats.

A Naval search operation is in progress.
