It's hard not to hate the iPhone just a little. The hype and the rabid fanboys are everywhere. But Apple's mobile phone and media player is indeed something special. Combining a touch-screen and motion sensors with a GPS receiver and a high-speed Internet connection means the gadget has a lot of room to evolve. What will take it in new directions are a treasure trove of applications under development, funded in part by sweet venture money provided by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers.
