In a rare occurrence, sexually-abused girl Shaista wedded her tormentor at the special camp jail at Bhagalpur on Monday.

Shaista, a young girl from the Hussainpur locality under Mojahidpur police station, chose to forgive her abuser, Md. Gyas Raza, and agreed to marry him after the persuasion of parents and relatives from both sides.

The special camp jail, where Shaista's abuser Raza is locked up since September 2010, was the marriage venue. The jail officials and staff, other jail inmates, along with the parents of the bride and groom witnessed and blessed the couple.

According to jail officials, Md. Gyas Raza was sent to the special camp jail by the court after Shaista lodged a case of sexual abuse (rape) against Raza in September 2010.

While in jail, Md Raza accepted his crime and sent feelers to his parents and society members to marry Shaista.

Both families filed a mutual agreement petition consenting to the marriage between Raza and Shaista in court.
