A ship carrying over 200 Sri Lankan asylum seekers heading for Canada has been sighted near Guatemala, the Asian Tribune reported today. The 59-metre ship MV Sun Sea was yesterday seen near Guatemala, carrying more than 219 illegal Sri Lankan Tamil migrants and 12 Indian Tamil migrants.
The ship, which was earlier headed for Australia is now reportedly headed for British Columbia and the Canadian authorities have been placed on alert. There were also reports that some LTTE suspects may be among the asylum seekers.
