The position of Knight made by british kings to award who had devoted his life to entertain royals. (see ian botthom is not a big cricketer even awarded - he is a drug user, who get caught in cricket matches) But we are in Sri Lanka and Sanath and Murali made their service to Sri Lanka. Rayals of british merely offer such positions to asian like us (see the list of knights).. and we do not values that positions here too.. sana and muraly already heroes of our people in Sri Lanka. Are we still looking for carrots from suddas to make compensation ????? I think our government should ban those type of awards and positions (basically carrots) givern by suddas

We had knights when British ruled the counrty.Honorary awards are made to people who are not citizens of countries that acknowledge the British Sovereign as their head of state. They cannot use the titles of "Sir" or "Dame", but can use the initials of the awards after their names. If such people later acquire British nationality or the nationality of another Commonwealth Realm, then their awards are usually made substantive, and in the case of knighthoods and dameships they can begin to use the titles.
Citizens of a country which was a full part of the British Empire when they received the honour (i.e. who were British subjects at the time) were substantive knights or dames, not honorary, although some chose not to use their title after their country became independent. Citizens of British protectorates and mandated territories, however, received honorary awards. Before 1947, Indian princes and citizens of the princely states were made substantive members of the two Indian orders (Order of the Star of India and Order of the Indian Empire), but honorary members of the other orders. Other Indians, however, were made substantive members of all orders.

Above two people are also Knights.
And just for the information of the others see this. That's why we can't have a knight in SL now.

Sir Arthur C Clarke is a citizen of Sri Lanka! He's not a citizen of Britain. So what about that? I don't even remember he going to UK to get the honour!
So that means Queen still can appoint knights from SL.![]()

Clarke was born in Minehead, Somerset, United Kingdom. As a boy, he enjoyed stargazing and reading old American science fiction pulp magazines (many of which made their way to the UK in ships with sailors who read them to pass the time). After secondary school and studying at Huish's Grammar School, Taunton, he was unable to afford a university education and got a job as an auditor in the pensions section of the Board of Education.
