Sinhala and Tamil Language Nationalisim has pushed Sri Lankan decades behind in Economic Growth. Whereas Singapore and Hong Kong are ahead in economic prospects. The main reason is not teaching all Subjects in English. English is spoken by 1.8 Billion people now. Every business needs them to survive. Since it is lingual franca of the world. The teacher shortage can be reduced if all subjects can be tought in English. Because one can put ethnic Tamil and Singalese teacher to any class. By teaching Sinhala and Tamil only in Language course.

for e.g. If english was thought properly writers would find bigger market for their books. This would happen in every filed. We would no longer need to send house maids to Middle East. Most Sri Lankans are in blue collar jobs due to this and they are not in white collar jobs. All Air traffic controlers speak in English. Even cross border business speak in English. Even Computers, Internet, Accounts, Medical, etc are primarily in English.

English should be made official Language in Sri Lanka.

Sinhala, tamil & English are main official languages in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka's literacy rate index is on very top than many developed countries.

Many schools are teaching all the subjects in English. And the students been taught all three main languages as compulsory subjects.

Only private schools not government schools between grade 1 to 6 and some students do not learn english that well. Some students continue to learn in Sinhala and Tamil even from Grade 6 to A/L. Some student are not able to speak english.
