Dialog netted the highest profits during the Sirasa Super Star promotions:

Customer Base as they say = 2,00,000

Let's say 50% Votijng on 7788 = 2,00,000/100x50

= 1,00,000

Let's say Rs. 1/= profit from 01 SMS = 1,00,000xRs. 1/=

=Rs. 1,00,000/=

Amount they charge for SMS sent to 7788 =Rs. 11.50

Above amount with out VAT =Rs. 11.50/115x100

=Rs. 10.00

Normal Charge for SMS =Rs. 2.30

Extra amount that charge for this 7788 =Rs. 10.00 – 2.30

=Rs. 7.70

Actual cost per SMS like that =Rs. 0.50 (or less)

So the profit that they get from 1 SMS like this = Rs. 7.70 – 0.50

= Rs. 7.20

If we took that per week no of votes they receive nearly= 45, 000

And superstar thing was going on for 6hole months = 6x4

= 24 weeks

So the profit Dialog got is = Rs. 7.20 x 45, 000 x 24

= ZE]

machan The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission has already ordered them to reduce the price for Rs.5 per sms(excluding excluding vat, as far as i know). this ruling happend a year ago. it they charge anything above this figure u must complain the commission. But always keep in mind this is sri lanka.

The charge of 12 bucks was for the season 1. Now its 5 bucks. Dialog or any other operator gets only the normal sms charge (2 bucks) and the rest goes to the TV channel. Any way its not only Dialog. All telcos earn their share through Superstar or any other TV show which viewers participate via SMS. Even USA or India its the same.

I do not see this as a robbery. Coz its a service provided. Before SMS comes to play there was post cards. Didnt u pay for the postal ?? After that it was phone call. Didnt u pay for the land line?? And now its SMS. U have to pay for that too. In the future it will be online voting. That will come with a fee too.

The world is changing so face it. U & I cant stop people spending their money. Untill its not a scam I'am ok with it.

Yes. You are correct too. But the thing is, in such a event, where the SMS fee is more than normal rate they should always advertise the fee with the advertisement or TV program. Otherwise people don't know how much money they are spending on that SMS's. There was a program on DERANA called "SMS Salpila" or something like that where people bid for some electronic items via SMS. But they never advertised the cost for a SMS at anytime throughout the program. That is a very bad practice.

So Whats your point.Sirasa Treated by giving 1 million to Ajith Bandara & other five finalalists of super star.Thats not all they funded for two albums remember? Ajith Bandara's Thilaka Album & Shihan Mihiranga's Dreams Of Shihan Album.They collected money from the sms votes.

In the second series SSS is giving 3.5Million worth of Brand new Honda.Thats not all they are giving Scooters & 1 Lakh each for the 11 Finalists. They are doing a community service by helping some poor & Innocent young people. And are you trying to stop it?
