Correct word should be University as I know.Also as I got to know if any educational institute can offer their own degrees they should be called universities otherwise ones who affliate degrees from another universities called institutes.As per the name implies IIT, SLIIT are institutes.SLIIT | Sri Lanka Institute of Information TechnologyInformatics Institute of Technology | IIT CampusBut SLIIT offers their own local degrees apart from foreign affiliated degrees, So it's fair SLIIT called a university and SLIIT has also campuses such as SLIIT Metro, SLIIT Kandy Campus etc.In final thought we should respect any institute who offers quality education whether its government or private.  I graduated from government university, but I never degrade anyone who call campus for their private university or institute unless they do not talk loku scenes about their private institute's wealth and benefits. I believe all should have honor and respect for the place where they got educated, so calling it campus or whatever should not be problem to other.</blockquote>
