Okay.. Let me explain it like this.... I did the SLIIT and tell me if the government want the A/L and O/L to do in the way that you are doing the Bit. (Self Study)... You are only getting ready for the exam.. Will you think that it would be a success.... A Big No ... From me... We had the opportunity to work with friends who are doing networking, information systems, as well as IT. So we know how to deal with people, share what you know and learn what they know. Every thing should be there when you get into IT industry. Because we got the correct foundation and now I am also doing self studies, by downloading ebooks.

So I do not even like to compare a internal degree and a external degree...

Even there are people who do SCJP, CCNA Exams... without going to any classes. Knowledge not depends on where you have studied or what courses you have done. It is just a matter about what you have gained, and what you can do from it.... that is what I wanted to let you know .....

and this is stupid , this is going offtopic , the answer to you're question is.

It's depends on you're interests , check the sylibus and see what are the best.
If you have problem of finding the sylibus we will open to help you. and

We had the opportunity to work with friends who are doing networking, information systems, as well as IT
is a nonsense , working with friends you gain nothing. If so as External students
we can meet the ppl who are doing jobs in many fields not only IT. Unless it is
working experience , some degree programs allow that you to work in a company
like virtusa as industry training like that , unless that's not important.

so it's all you're interest and budget and also distance from the home to the university.
    it's you're choice.

That is called the experience mate. that's why SLIIT and BIT also got the
final year project. it gives you the experience to put the theories into the
practice. Experience is better than the knowledge, that is why project is
the most weighted in credits in the BIT degree. I thin SLIIT also the same
but I'm not the SLIIT student , and know little about SLIIT. you may ask
somebody from SLIIT and get to a decision.

You or I can't tell that Experience is better than knowledge. Without knowledge, you can't expect to get a experience. So both are bind together. A Project gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge. So if you can output a good project, that means you are successful.

death of Prof. Samaranayake. Go for SLIIT its recognize all over the world

I too believe this. But BIT is not the effort of leacures or teachers it's a effort of
the students . Unlike the SLIIT , you are going to the university one day for one
semester to registration. So it's recognition can't be decide from the teachers
and leacture pannel in the UCSC , it's completely the effort of the students.

If you read my first post I have said the same. and talking about the specialization can you please explain..

:) specialization....lets assume you are a chef...you've been cooking in a restaurant for years...( lets guess for 10 years)... and after some more years you get better xperience & n no one can reach ur place....and everyone loves eating ur food... simply it's the specialization...

but now ppl will say UCSC has much xperience than the SLIIT... it depends... coz SLIIT has built just for the purpose of teaching INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.. but UCSC is not...

SLIIT's lecturers are well xperienced abt the subject IT and all the background in SLIIT is based on Information Technology...

anyhow this is my idea...when comparing SLIIT with UCSC... I prefer SLIIT...based on the subject ( IT)

hey... you mean to say that SLIIT lectures have much more knowledge and experience than others, is that so?

man have understanding about the others.
Have you by any chance read the modern operating system book. by Tannenbaum (may not corrrect spelling). dr. chandana gamage of CSE wrote the security section of that book. it is worldwide recognized book of many institutions. does he has less experience and knowledge. have you used the data mining tool "Weka". Dr. Amal shehan perera is a co developer of that project. was UCSC student and now CSE lecture. do you know one of the fastest data structure for data mining 'p-tree'. he was one of the researches of that. of you want I can provide whole list of these kind of achievements. are you also talking about the same thing or a different thing?

    UCSC is better
bcuz instead of the parroting culture UCSC give a self studying which gives opertunity to think find and learn what they want that will be a life saver when we go to the industry bcuz in the industry there are no instructors to teach you only are the managers and tech leads who give the order
although it doesnt matter how many programming languages u learn it matters how much theoretical knowledge you have programing languages comes and vanish but the theory (algorithms and basics) would be the same for long time
