According to the invoices exchanged, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority has purchased a disposable surgical mask for Rs. 40, making a total purchase worth Rs. 50 million.
The Ports Authority had purchased the masks from PJ Pharma Care Pvt. Ltd. for Rs. 40 each.
According to the President of the Government Nurses’ Association Saman Ratnapriya, a disposable mask used within the government hospital system could be purchased for around Rs. 7.
The invoices exchanged for this purchase however does not state the address PJ Pharma Care Pvt. Ltd. but instead states that the company was registered under PV110727.
The masks were purchased for the use of port workers following the onset of the COVID19.
When inquired about this from Sarath Kumara Premachandra, the Managing Director of the Ports Authority, he stated that he could not answer as he had not served in his post since 21 June.
