2013 #SLPL matches to be played in 7 venues. Premadasa, Dambulla, Galle,Hambantota,Kurunagala,Moratuwa,Pallakelle in order to gather crowds

so all teams gonna have home venues , thats a goog sign, city rivalry is key for these type of tournaments , they should change the team names is well, how about kandy bastards vs colombo rapers, instead of basnahira vs kadurata

News : SLC writes to Indian board about early release of IPL players
    Players/Officials: Ravindra Pushpakumara
    Series/Tournaments: ICC Champions Trophy
    Teams: Sri Lanka

Three young cricketers from Sri Lanka's war-affected regions have been named in the squads scheduled to participate in a one-day tri-series, which aims to prepare Sri Lanka's national side for the Champions Trophy. Fast bowler S Silojen and wicketkeeper Rishan Tudor, both 19, have been named in the Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Combined sides respectively, while top order batsman S Sanjeewan, 21, has been picked for Sri Lanka A.
Tudor, who played for St. Patrick's College, Jaffna, had impressed Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara last year, after he was chosen for the Unity Team that traveled to Singapore in October last year. Sanjeewan, who played for St. Michael's College in Batticaloa, had also been part of that side.
"They are really talented cricketers and I'm very happy that they've got this chance," Northern region coach Ravindra Pushpakumara, who had worked with all three players, said. "Last year when we went to Singapore, Murali got to bowl a few overs at Rishan Tudor, who was wicketkeeping, and Murali and Sanga were amazed at his ability to pick the doosra so quickly. Sanjeewan also hit a couple of very fast fifties on that tour."
Silojen meanwhile, had been spotted by chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya on a recent trip to Jaffna, and has since been enrolled in Sri Lanka's pace bowling academy. He had played for Kokuvil Hindu College.
"Everyone who has worked for this is extremely happy," Pushpakumara said. "It's been a dream to see cricketers from the north and east playing in high level teams, and our first objective has been realised."
The tri-series begins on May 12, and all seven matches will be played in Pallekele. The Sri Lanka team for the tournament features only six cricketers who have been picked for the Champions Trophy squad, as the remaining players are currently in India for the IPL.

Posted by rukshi on (May 7, 2013, 16:21 GMT) - Featured comment I am a Canadian but from Srilanka.Ravindra Puspakumara has put lot of work in Jaffna and congratulation. The only disadvantage for the Jaffna Cricketers is they do not have a Turf Pitch. If they can identify a place at least to put up practice pitch I can raise some funds to do it.Puspakumara is aware of it.

Posted by MH19 on (May 9, 2013, 3:45 GMT) Ranjan Rodrigo in regards to your comment about Thilakaratne Dilshan he does not need any political backing to play for Sri Lanka as he is talented enough in all aspects of the game in Batting,Bowling and Fielding and is the best allrounder we have and had for a decade. Surley he will retire 1 day but in due respect he will be an automatic choice for SL in Test,1day and T20.No one has so far proved that his place can be taken.

on (May 7, 2013, 20:32 GMT) Best news for me who has got fed up with SL cricket and even seniors thinking they are indispensable, The Seniors shud be consistent like Dhoni a nd even Tendulkar since inconsistent shud be dropped. In SL, Dilshan is enjoying the same political pull as Sanath and others too have to bow down a bit or else their business will suffer. Ranjan Rodrigo Sydney

    SLPL goes to Galle, Hambantota

What is the status of the SLPL? When will it happen or will
it actually happen? These may be the questions on many a
lip of Sri Lankan cricket fans. The reason for such interest
could be the impact the whole tournament created in its
first year though I am sure there were areas the
organisers were surely going to look at come the next
year. Also another possible reason for the interest in the
SLPL could be particularly in view of the Big Bash in
Australia and the current goings on the IPL. Television
screens in most cricket loving nations are filled with the
action of the great stars of the modern day battling out for
their respective Indian franchises creating immense
pleasure and excitement for all. In the wake of such great
action and excitement it won’t be a surprise for the Sri
Lankan cricket lovers to expect something similar from
their own Premier League which is now known as the SLPL!
To begin with the organizers – Somerset Entertainment
Ventures and Sri Lanka Cricket – have made the correct
move in the second edition by deciding to spread the games
around the country. It was extremely obvious that from the
first occurrence the R Premadasa Stadium is not the best
venue to play so many games and also have the big crowds
the format needs. Colombo is a city where hundreds of
thousands of people come in for their employment and
really have very little time to spend on leisure on a regular
basis and hence scheduling so many games in front of
empty seats didn’t do the event any justice. I am sure it
was most demoralising to everybody involved to stage a
game of absolute action before a virtual empty house. It
made the organisers and the franchise owners take the
unusual step of filling in the ground with artificial support
which is not the way to go in leagues such the SLPL. The
countries where such leagues have been staged have
always attracted big crowds with the exception of Sri Lanka
and hence looking to tackle that issue is without doubt a
step in the right direction. As a result of the first
experience the second edition of the SLPL will be staged in
almost every major cricket location which ranges from
Colombo and spreads across the country covering cities
such as Kurunegala, Kandy, Dambulla, Galle, Hambantota
and Moratuwa. This will also mean that teams will justify
their identity. For example Wayamba where its provincial
capital is Kurunegala will actually play a game there and
also play a few games in Dambulla ensuring that they
capture the imagination, support and the participation of
the people of the area. The same applies to Ruhuna too
with games in Galle and Hambantota.
To succeed as an event the SLPL needs not just quality
players and good cricket but the support of the respective
people. Otherwise as it happened the first time the game
will be watched for its entertainment and quality and not
for the belongingness of the respective segment in the
country. True the rivalry amongst regions in Sri Lanka is
nowhere close to an Indian situation. Hence the reason for
the vast following the IPL has at the moment. It’s also true
that the SLPL can never be an IPL. In fact I wonder whether
there will ever be another event to match the IPL. But
despite such a situation it’s also important that the SLPL
identifies and works on the finer points of making the event
a success and one of the standout situations is the crowd
support! The decision to play games especially in
Kurunegala, Galle, Moratuwa and Dambulla should be
lauded whilst it’s a shame that Matara hasn’t got a game.
Besides it’s a pity that Sri Lanka still doesn’t have any
major cricket venue in either the North or the East. Had
that been the case the whole meaning of the League could
have easily been fulfilled. However when one looks at the
development plans in the said provinces it won’t be too long
before games are staged in those parts of the country too.
Politically this will be the tonic Sri Lanka needed as a
country as these were the regions that once fought a
thirty-year war to detach themselves from the country Sri
Lanka. In a scenario such as that to have all races playing
together and cheering together can be the perfect answer
to the world full of ills, where tolerance, love and
consideration for each other will stand out. I am sure in
time to come the SLPL if staged in such areas could be a
perfect solution to such a problem if it still exists.
Also the latest news on the league has it that the event is
ready to take off on the 10th of August and will conclude
on the 7thSeptember with just one game at a venue on a
day. Unlike the last year the SLPL will have two TV crews
too and according to the CEO of the event Ajith Jayasekera
the highly respected officer and the gentleman of the Sri
Lanka Air Force there will be much better players too in the
draft come the second edition of the SLPL.
So with seven franchises at the starting line backed by real
quality on the playing field the next edition of the SLPL
hopefully is going to be an event of great excitement

Lessons for the Sri Lanka Premier League

The spot-fixing scandal in the IPL has brought into focus the vulnerability of other domestic Twenty20 leagues, including the Sri Lanka Premier League, and there are many lessons that the nascent tournament can learn

The spot-fixing scandal in the IPL has brought into focus the vulnerability of other domestic Twenty20 leagues, like the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL), to corruption. It has also emphasised the need for effective anti-corruption measures and education. Last year's inaugural SLPL was seemingly well-equipped to deal with the threat of corruption, but when allegations surfaced that a fix was in the works, the SLPL's response was muddled, and concrete results from the ensuing investigation were never announced.
The allegations surfaced before the tournament had even begun, when an unnamed source purported to be close to the tournament's operations handed over a taped conversation to a local newspaper in the week before the opening ceremony. The conversation, said to be almost entirely in Hindi, allegedly had a franchise owner speaking about fixing matches in the tournament. After having the tape translated, staff at the newspaper were unwilling to publish the story, and instead handed over the tape to Sri Lanka Cricket.
On receiving the tape, SLC issued a release stating they had passed it on to officers of the ICC's anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU), who were in Sri Lanka to oversee the tournament. The release said an investigation was underway, but it was not immediately clear which body would conduct it.
Upali Dharmadasa, who was the SLC president at the time, was adamant the ACSU officers were conducting the investigation. The ICC, however, asserted that because a domestic tournament was the subject of the alleged corruption, the home board would carry out the investigation, with the ACSU involved insofar as SLC deemed fit. Confusion ruled the reactions from officials, and reassurances that the truth about the tape would be uncovered seemed hollow as a result.
Eventually, the tournament overcame the pall of corruption that clouded its beginning and the team that was supposedly embroiled in the affair performed surprisingly well, given their talent pool. The tape was not officially mentioned either by SLC or the ICC again, but SLPL tournament director, Ajit Jayasekara told ESPNcricinfo that the whole incident effectively amounted to a hoax.
"The SLC anti-corruption people conducted their investigation in coordination with the ICC unit, and they found that the tape wasn't an authentic one. Everything was done properly," he said on Saturday.
According to Jayasekara, SLC were satisfied with the anti-corruption measures in last year's tournament, and will not alter its arrangements for the 2013 tournament. "The ICC anti-corruption unit briefed all the players and officials before the tournament, and our anti-corruption unit was constantly involved as well," he said.
Given the ACSU's official involvement and the fact that the SLPL operates in a minuscule market compared to the IPL, it would appear the tournament is less susceptible to fixing. However, although the SLPL's anti-corruption measures are effectively identical to those adopted in international cricket, a fixing allegation revealed weaknesses in the authorities' response, and failed to reassure fans that the league was safe from corruption.
