SLUMDOG is not the pride of Asia!!!

I certainly agree that Slumdog millionaire is a good movie which is plot around India and directed by a westerner. How ever I do not see why this movie should compete in OSCARS when other amazing Indian production like “Taare Zamin Par” is no way closer. SLUMDOG shows the bitter ugliness of Asian community. Its sorrow, cruelty, poverty and much more which we as Asians can never be proud of. On the other hand it brutally brand ethnic conflicts, religious beliefs , social statuses to the brim and gives the viewer that Asia (Specially India) as a slum beyond slums. For the unknowns western eye this may seems like a magical journey ahead of their imagination. But we as Asians where do we stand now in the common world??

Why cant Asia come up with better movies without this horrid story lines and win some thing worthy?? I salute Rahuman for his achievements. He did made Asia proud.

well what matters is acting skills and direction skills mostly not who likes the plot or not and almost every oscar wining movies had bitter endings which is relatively realistic and worth watching

No mate its not about reality. They dont let any other good Indian movies to compete unless its done by a western company and crew. Read the forums and see what Indians has to say about them.

Yes and same way most of the western movies are crap too. Looking at the Oscar history good Asian movies were never given a fair chance in the foriegn movie category. Movies likes Lagaan, Taare Zamin parr, Black were neglected just like that. And they were all positive movies where people would keep in their hearts after watching.

art is not always truth so it doesn't mean you necessarily need to believe what you see in movies it's just entertainment and if a movie was based on a real incident I'm sure they'd mention it in the movie
and makers of sulanga enu pinisa claimed it to be real? i haven't seen it

No mate it does not. Keeping the fantasy movies apart all dramas keeps a mark in your mind after you watch it. I believe that mark should be a worthwhile one. Specially when it becomes the "BEST MOVIES OF THE YEAR"! All what I say is that why are we still letting the whites to come and play the fool with our communities and bag an award for that too.

Artistically and I have no argument about the movie. But morally its another story.

Have you seeing the way he spoke about Asia and Asian film industy in the media interviews?? That kid is not Indian. He is a british borne. This movie is a mix of misfits except for its music. How ever just as I said before there is no argument about its artistic value or the awards it wins. The point is the moral factor.

i never was so judgmental about western countries just cos they tend to suck in my favorite movies eventhough I'm not a huge fan of america and i don't know about the rest but but I'm not coming in to any conclusion about a society just cos i saw something on a movie

and needless to say every society has it's flaws it's just minority of people doing you know anti social stuff just like here in asia and i cant really agree with that we seldom seeing their good side cos majority of movies are of that

and apart from that all you can't expect a western director to come down and make another bollywood romantic flick right
