Recently I've got the File Error message on my Sony Cybershot W210. I lost a few files.
It appears that this happens because you delete files from your computer! The Camera does not know how to handle these types of deletions and causes it to write files which it cannot read. Reason is the Camera handles the file system in a different way than the computer.
The Solution is to connect connect the camera, read files, and then unplug and delete files using the camera or set to the connect mode to PTP/MTP and then connect so if you delete a file windows will tell the camera to delete so file system will be handled correctly.
