Sony Ericsson are busy producing various music accessories for mobile phones such as headsets and portable speakers that can pair with a cell phone through a Bluetooth connection. The Sony Ericsson HBH-DS220 is one of these new Bluetooth headsets that can pair with almost any cell phone providing it supports Bluetooth. The Sony Ericsson DS220 Bluetooth headset can be adjusted to every ear by means of the included extra earplugs. The price tag that comes with this headset is not one of the cheapest, 75 Euros and if it's worth its money will show from the following Sony Ericsson DS220 headset review.

Sony Ericsson DS220 headset design

We tested the red and black version of the Sony Ericsson DS220. The headset is also available in an entirely black version and a brown one. The Bluetooth headset DS220 of Sony Ericsson has a cylindrical shape with a clip on the end to attach the headset to your clothes. Its trendy and playful design make this the perfect designer headset for the younger consumer. Three buttons are available to operate the Bluetooth headset and besides that a small LCD screen offers information about the battery status among other things. The topside has a connection for plugging in the included 3.5mm earplugs. A battery charger, not included, can be connected to the bottom of the headset.

Sony Ericsson DS220 pairing with a phone

sony-ericsson-bluetooth-headset.jpg

Before the Sony Ericsson DS220 can be paired with a cell phone, the Bluetooth headset has to be deactivated. Pressing the on/off button of the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS220 longer than necessary for turning the headset on, the 'pairing with cell phone' sign will appear. The connecting phone has to confirm the password (0000). When the Bluetooth connection between headset and cell phone is lost, it can be reactivated by briefly turning off the Bluetooth headset and back on again. The cell phone will then get reconnected to the headset automatically.

You can listen to the music you play on your cell phone through the Sony Ericsson DS220 Bluetooth headset. The DS220 headset also lets you play/pause your music and adjust the volume. A minus is the fact that there is only one button available for adjusting the volume, so if you press the play/pause button, the volume goes up and down and back again which makes it difficult to precisely adjust the volume. The included earplugs deliver high quality stereo sound with a beautiful deep bass.

Sony Ericsson HBH-DS220 conversations

sony-bluetooth-headset.jpg

You can do more with your DS220 headset than just listen to music. Thanks to its built-in microphone you can take your calls through the Sony Ericsson DS220. When you want to use it for this purpose the two devices need to be paired. After pairing you don't have to take the cell phone out of your pocket to answer or end a call. When a call comes in, answering is easy.

Sony Ericsson DS220 headset sound quality

You just press the phone button on the Bluetooth headset. When you press this button during your conversation it will end the call. If you want to refuse the incoming call you just press the phone button down until you hear a beep. The Sony Ericsson DS220 headset delivers high quality sound without noise. It was easy to hear and follow the conversations providing there wasn’t a lot of background noise.

Headset review conclusion

The trendy Bluetooth headset Sony Ericsson HBH-DS220 has a neat and compact design and comes with earplugs offering stereo sound. The clip on the headset lets you attach the Sony Ericsson DS220 to your clothes for moving around freely. The Bluetooth headset is operated by only three buttons and offer ease of use. Adjusting the volume to your own taste however, is not one of the easiest things to accomplish due to the fact that there is only one button available. The sound quality of the DS220 in combination with the included earplugs is excellent. Still; the lack of additional functions compared to cheaper headsets might make this Sony Ericsson DS220 Bluetooth headset not the first choice or the best one for everyone. I can imagine the attractive design of the DS220 appealing to you and that might be the reason to purchase this trendy headset.
