Nov 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today announced that it has decided to proscribe the LTTE front Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) following a decision taken by the Cabinet of Ministers based on the findings of TRO links with the LTTE.
The United States Treasury last week announced that it is freezing the assets of the TRO because it acts as a front to facilitate fundraising as well as arms and other procurement for the LTTE.
"TRO passed off its operations as charitable, when in fact it was raising money for a designated terrorist group responsible for heinous acts of terrorism," said Adam J. Szubin, Director of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
