Sri Lanka has the worst Global Competitive index in the world at 85th. Even our neighbours are better at index than us. Too much govenment control of market bound to make us less competitive in the world. Abitary tax hikes on goods and services. The is no stable economic policy no matter which government comes.
Look at India they are really better off than us. India is at 40th. India has one economic policy with both Congress and BJP. They have economic board which handels policy of economy of that country. They are more compettitive than us even though their currency is high.
Sri Lankan Cental bank is depreciating without an end in sight, still we cannot send money abroad freely. That is why so much smuggling is going on. Too much red tape on foreign exchange, would anyone invest in a country that you cannot take back funds easily. Look at Middle East,Singapore, Hong Kong.
It is a shame that whichever government comes ,the economy is in shambles.
