    Sri Lanka Telecom launches SLT Megaline

    voice – data – broadband - internet – email – multimedia services on a single wireline connection





    Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the nation's number one integrated communications service provider launched yet another dynamic product, SLT Megaline on August 5, 2008. This is the first time that SLT is offering its wireline connections through a variety of packages that enables people the freedom to choose what services they want, especially, broadband, Internet and voice value added services, as well as making wireline connectivity more affordable to the public.



    SLT Megaline comprises of four packages; Bronze, which is the basic package with pure wireline connection, Silver, which offers a wireline connection with voice value added services, Gold offering a wireline connection with dial up internet and Platinum consisting of wireline connection with ADSL. The packages can be subscribed for, at the Regional Telecom Offices and Teleshops of SLT.



    Speaking on the significance of the product, Ms. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson, SLT said, “We take great pleasure in launching “SLT Megaline” to the public, as part of our initiative in making wireline connectivity affordable as well as opening the doors to take up a range of communications services. We have always been in the forefront of introducing innovative state-of-the-art technologies to the market and now we have offered our flagship product through four attractive packages. The key challenge in all of this is to provide consumers with more choices, increased flexibility and greater control. Today telecommunication providers need to introduce new products that deliver faster speeds with superior quality and greater reliability”



    The company selected popular film star, Roshan Ranawana as the brand ambassador for SLT MegaLine to help raise public awareness on the wide range of services such as Voice, Data and Internet available on the SLT Megaline offer.



    Ajantha Seneviratne, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, SLT said, “The SLT Megaline packages is our way of offering something new and innovative to the market and renowned celebrity, Roshan Ranawana is the perfect ambassador for this. With his wide appeal as well as his youthfulness and dynamism, we feel that he was the right choice to help SLT achieve its goal of offering the general public the real benefits of a truly reliable and dependable connectivity.”



    This is symbolic of SLT moving into an energetic new market, taking wireline service to the next generation.



    Sri Lanka Telecom (www.slt.lk) is one of the country’s most valuable blue chip companies with an annual turnover in excess of Rs 40 billion. Whilst Global Telecommunications Holdings N.V. of Netherlands owns a 35.2% stake in Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), 49.2% is owned by the Government of Sri Lanka and 15.3% is listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company was also awarded an AAA (sri) rating by Fitch Ratings Lanka followed by a BB- international rating by Fitch International and Standard & Poor’s.



    SLT Group has a customer base of over two million including multinational corporations, large and small corporate, retail and domestic customers. Today SLT provides facilities and services: voice, data, video and mobile to its customers, which are unmatched in scope. These services range from domestic and international voice, advance data transmission services which include internet services on leased lines, broadband [on ADSL] and dial up, data circuits, frame relay solutions to IP services such as IP-VPN based on IP-MPLS technology, total corporate solutions of multiple services, satellite uplink services and mobile telephony through the fully owned subsidiary Mobitel.



    With a view to making Sri Lanka a broadband island, SLT is in the process of introducing the necessary infrastructure in the form of NGN [Next Generation Networks] using optical fibre backbone and broadband services such as IMS, IPTV etc. SLT also provides high speed global connectivity to countries in the South Asian region through its investments in international submarine cables such as SMW3, SMW4 and the Bharat Lanka submarine cable [between India and Sri Lanka] and Dhirragu-SLT submarine cable system between Maldives Islands and Sri Lanka. Newly incorporate SLT Hong Kong Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom, fully geared to provide services such as IP transit, IPVPN, IPLC and International voice traffic transit services to global telecom operators and corporates in Hong Kong.
