Without taxes you wont have free education,free hospital facilities etc.First of all Tax is an important contribute to a government's income. A government need taxes to earn money for development purposes and to pay salaries to government employees(teachers,Doctors,nurses, clearks).And there is no arguement in this issue, we all have to accept that current tax system should be changed!! because currently most of the people who CAN pay taxes (income tax) don't pay!! And also there are holes in the law, which allow people to slip away with out paying the taxes and with out getting a punishment!!! So the government must fix the law, and try to earn more and more tax money!!Secondly, the government should apply taxes for some of the items imported to sri lanka, specially luxury items(cars , jeeps, i phones<img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/P.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":P" title=":P    :P" data-shortname=":P" /><img src="/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/default/P.gif"  class="smilie" loading="lazy" alt=":P" title=":P    :P" data-shortname=":P" />), and rice, onions, chilies and other crops, which our farmers grow/ can grow!!! As we are still a developing country we should reduce import of luxurious items, as it costs a lot! And also to protect the local farmers, we have to apply taxes for food items!!!But the problem in the tax system is it is not constant solid one, It varies a lot, even with in the same catagory !! Therefore reforms should be introduced to the current tax systemAnd i see some people who have superficial knowledge on government/economy try to make rumors stating that UPFA government is trying to trample poor/medium class people!! But the truth is UPFA/UNP or whatever government, they have to depend on taxes. It's still too early to comment on a tax system which we haven't seen yet!!! therefore lets await, How it wl be.............!</blockquote>
