The Transport and Highways Ministry has announced plans to import 600 buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) fleet, aiming to expand passenger capacity on expressways and ordinary roads before year-end.
The shipment will include 200 luxury coaches intended for expressway services and 400 standard buses for regular routes, the ministry said. The consignment is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka by December.
Separately, the ministry confirmed that 104 newly procured “metro” buses have already been shipped and are expected to reach the country by 15th August.
Officials said the buses will be fitted with card‑based fare collection systems and, following installation and testing, will be placed into service before 20th September.
