Message: <blockquote data-quote="lkdood" data-source="post: 10569456" data-attributes="member: 92282">Sri Lanka's vehicle registrations were up 65.2 percent in May 2011 to  41,862 from a year earlier, with total registrations also up 65 percent  to 200,415 in the first five months of the year, official data shows.                                Car registrations rose 10  times to 5,173 in May, motor cycle imports were up 38.2 percent to  22,036 and three wheelers were up 64 percent to 9,518. Sri Lanka's vehicle imports rose sharply this year after the state cut  taxes. Sri Lanka has a oppressive tax policy on cars where ordinary  people pay very high rates of tax, but state workers get tax slashed  cars, while rulers get completely tax free cars. In April vehicle taxes were raised slightly but not to previous levels. Car registrations which rose to 5,560 in March slackened off slightly in April 4,741 but has since topped 5,000 again in May. Motor cycle registrations which rose to 22,028 in March, dipped to  18,888 in April and has against picked up to 22,036 in May.                                                                    At the end of 2010 Sri Lanka had around four million vehicles.
