Its not that easy...

Because to fly over an area infested with the LTTE will not be like eating banana's...they will keep shooting.

And secondly, they will get to know that the army is upto something like this, and they will take precautions like using something to cover their noses, or take everyone into a covered place like a bunker including civilians, or allow the civilians to stay and the will get protection. But when the Army lands to retrieve those civilians, these LTTE will come out and start attacking all of them.

The main problem why this cannot be done is because the area is too large, and it seems to be a easily evadable plan

    Well actually the problems that you have highlighted can be resolved.

    First thing, the gas used should be of a minute composition, which is attainable.Therefore it wont be harmful

    Then, if this operation is successful, then the effect would last for about 1-2 hours on an average man.

    How the Army can survive the Gas is to use Gas Masks

    And what the Army could do to bring the large amount of people is send two or more large sized cargo planes (Hope you have seen them) right after the gas has been released.

    But, there are other severe problems with this plan.

    This Army thats going on, is not something like Call Of Duty
