D. M. K. Menike, a mother from Doragamuwa, Katugastota donated two gold rings including her wedding ring to the Api Wenuwen Api Ranaviru Welfare Fund at the 84,000 Pahan Pinkama held at the Maha Maluwa, Kandy on Wednesday night to invoke blessings on the President, Security Forces and Police and the People.
She handed over the gift to Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister and Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella who was the chief guest on the occasion to be handed over to the Ranaviru (War Heroes) Welfare Fund.
Speaking to the media Menike said she had treasured the wedding ring given by her teacher husband for the last 33 years. She thought of gifting it to the Ranaviru Fund because she treasured the contribution made by the heroic forces in defence of the nation even more.
Minister Rambukwella said that Menike`s gesture was a good example to the whole nation which would help boost Security Forces` morale.
