Sri Lanka's Bribery Commission summons controversial minister
Sept 03, Colombo: The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption of Sri Lanka has summoned a government minister to record a statement on luxury vehicles. Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva has reportedly been summoned to the Commission to respond to a complaint lodged over his assets.
An official of the Commission has told local media that the complaint relates to the luxury vehicles used by his son Malaka Silva. However, the Commission official has according to the media report, refused to name the person who made the complaint and the date the Minister was expected to appear.
The complaint received by the Commission has stated that the Minister does not possess huge assets which allow him to purchase the type of luxury cars used by his son.
The Minister recently came under severe criticism from fellow government ministers for his public marriage proposal to the visiting UN Human Rights Chief Navi Pillay to teach her about the country.
