Dec 20, Colombo: The Up Country People's Front, a party representing the Indian origin plantation Tamil population in Sri Lanka is to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 2010 presidential elections, the party's leader said.
Party leader P. Chandrasekaran who is the Minister of Community Development and Social Inequity Eradication in the current government said President Rajapaksa is the only leader who can take the responsibility of the country's future.
His party has taken the unanimous decision to extend their maximum support to elect President Rajapaksa for another term, he said.
Chandrasekaran who held discussions with the President and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa said he is convinced and satisfied with the government' development programs.
At the last legislative elections in 2004, his party secured 0.5% of the popular vote and 2 out of 225 seats.
