A strong, 6.1-magnitude earthquake shook Guatemala Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.The temblor hit at 10:21 am (1621 GMT) some 10 kilometers (six miles) from the town of Santiago Atitlan and 68 km (42 miles) from the capital Guatemala City.

The quake was deep, centered 104 km (64 miles) below the earth's surface.

Seismologists are reporting a strong but deeply centered earthquake in Guatemala.Local radio stations say there are no reports of damages or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and was centered 25 miles (45 kilometers) southeast of Quetzaltenango, the country's second-largest city.

The epicenter is 40 miles (70 kilometers) from the capital, where the quake was not felt strongly.

The Survey says it hit at 11:21 a.m. (1621 GMT). It struck at a depth of 65 miles (100 kilometers).
