So im going to give you a full description about sun certification. cz i saw some threads that so many are asking about this exams...

Java is dividing into 3 main major areas.
J2SE(Java 2 Standard Edition)
J2EE(Java 2 Enterprise Edition)
J2ME(Java 2 Mobile Edition)

Sun Certification Path

So most of the sun certification , we can categorize into these areas.. I mention the new certification name inside the brackets.

J2SE(Java 2 Standard Edition)
Sun Certified Java Associate (Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 5/SE 6)
Sun Certified Java Programmer (Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE Programmer)
Sun Certified Java Developer(Oracle Certified Master, Java SE Developer)

J2EE(Java 2 Enterprise Edition)
Sun Certified Web Component Developer (Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE Web Component Developer)
Sun Certified Business Component Developer (Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE Business Component Developer)
Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services (Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Web Services Developer)
Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (Oracle Certified Master, Java EE Enterprise Architect)

J2ME(Java 2 Mobile Edition)
Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer(Oracle Certified Professional, Java ME Mobile Application Developer)

SCJP(Sun certified Java Programmer)​

SCJP is the first and entry certification in java under j2se area. Now oracle change the certification name as Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE Programmer and include oracle logo instead of Sun logo. To do the other sun certification you must pass this exam.

SCJP 1.6 Exam Objectives - CX-310-065​

Declarations, Initialization and Scoping, Flow Control, API Contents, Concurrency, OO Concepts, Collections / Generics, Fundamentals

Reference : SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065 by Katherine Sierra, Bert Bates

SCWCD(Sun certified web component developer)​

SCWCD mainly focus on the java ee jsp and servlets.
for reference : Head first jsp and servlets

SCBCD(Sun certified business component developer)​

Mainly focus on the Enterprise java beans. One of the major certification in today technologies. This certification has the most powerful value than the other certification. After learning this certification you can follow Hibernate,Spring,Struts and lot of other most valuable open source techniques.

SCMAD(Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer)​

Mainly focus on the java mobile edition. One of the fast growing certification in todays world.

So this is not the end of the java certification. In above i mention only major certification. There are some additional certification you can follow.
In todays IT job market academic qualification is not enough. If you earn professorial certification and you know the practicles you have most value comparing to the others.

After you completing SCBCD you can go to the Java Enterprise architect. I think it has 3 parts. I dont know much about that .
