Well if i had to take a guess on why some dislike the "old" view I would say its coz of the useless applications they have added and keeping on the face of their profiles which can be a real pain in the arse waiting for all of them to appear when accessing the profile page.

Simple solution to that is you can take them off from the profile but still keeping the application in the background.
