Not only to Sri Lanka. It's common for many countries in the world. Including USA and Australia. Always the people in power tries to achieve more. Universally true.

Agreed. But there's more direct corruption (power hunger) in SL than in many other more developed countries, sadly.

I'm not telling Sri Lankan politics is great, but,
Sri Lanka is much better compared with countries like Zimbabwe, Uganda, Madagaskar and the like.

True, but progress isn't made by comparing yourself with the lowest of low. It's made by first realising where you really are in the grand scheme of things, then aspiring to be the best you can be.

True. But can't forget that Sri Lanka is a 3rd world country. And Sri Lankan government (Irrespective of the party) is doing good even with a war within the country compared with other 3rd world countries like Tibet, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan etc. Corruption wise I'm not sure about the other countries honestly. But I believe Governments should stop their corruption. But it is really hard to do when you have all the power you know...

About the grand scheme... Well first of all Sri Lanka should try to become the best among the rest of the 3rd world countries. Then let's think about the grand scheme :)

I agree that SL shouldn't try to make leaps before it can take small positive steps forward (about the grand scheme of things) and I'm not forgetting SL is a developing (3rd world if you like) country. That said, I wouldn't say the government is doing 'good'. It's not that the government isn't doing any good at all, but there's so much room for improvement, even considering there is a war going on. Anyway, I don't want to get into a big discussion here (as it's not a platform that is conducive to launching a proper discussion/debate) but I definitely don't think power should be used as an excuse for the existence of coruption. It's not like power automatically brings corruption. There are other elements at work besides just the presence of power.
