The entertainment expenses at Temple Trees during the period from the last week of August to second week of December is Rs.13 million says Leader of SLFP (M) Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera.
Speaking further Mr. Samaraweera said the expenses for August was Rs.1,363,667, in September it was Rs.2,441,525, in October it was Rs. 1,747,450, in November it was Rs.3,930,525 and at the second week of December the entertainment expenses of the President was Rs.3,416,279. The total at the second week of December was Rs.12.8 million points out Mr. Samaraweera.
The President has said the expenses for his entertainment at Temple trees is not from government coffers. The secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga too had published media announcements that the President does not spend public money for entertaining masses at Temple Trees. Mr. Samaraweera says if what the President and his secretary say is the truth he must be spending money that belongs to ‘Medamulana Walawwa’ and adds as a presidential candidate he should declare his assets.
