In all honesty songs like "Jaya Jaya Sri Lanka", "Yamu Yamu Peratama" and even the "Skit" from Ru Siri album completely outclass all these songs. It just sounds like some untalented roudy school kid banging away at something, to a tune that only he has in his head. Ever tried drumming to a tune in your head?
K, I just saw the Cricket song by Lahiru http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxbLqCleTV8 I have mixed feelings about this song. While it is a (dare I say it) good song, there is something missing and its very noticeable. Video:N/A Singing:3 Vocals:3 Beats:3 Overal:3 Pros : The singing is actually not that bad, It has what almost all other cricket songs lack, "Enthusiatic singing" Cons : The drums... why in heavens name do they keep using those lousy drums. They sound so Indian and sucks up whatever class the song might have. Also a cheering song like this should have some sort of crowd screaming the chorus (In a good way, not a messy way). Overall : Could have been a good song. Can be summed up in one word : "Messy" Thinking about how all these songs fail makes me wonder why they didn't get Centigradz to make a song. They are undoubtedly the best pop/RnB group in Sri Lanka (big fan :P). In all honesty songs like "Jaya Jaya Sri Lanka", "Yamu Yamu Peratama" and even the "Skit" from Ru Siri album completely outclass all these songs. While they don't have the necessary oomph and vibe they still have the enthusiasm backing them up. Does anyone know if Centigradz are making a Cricket song? Please tell me they are, I'm not in SL so I don't get the latest rumors and gossip Edit: The reason Lahiru's song fails is pretty much cause of the drums, most fail lankan songs have 1 thing in common. The drum is made into the main instrument not a supporting instument, they don't have regularly paced beats that come on briefly and vanish. Having the drum as the main instrument ruins the song. Its this kind of layering that I meant.
