The Gift of Forgiveness

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.~ Lewis B. Smedes

Most of us carry around anger, resentment, jealousy, or some other negative emotion directed to others. Unless dealt with, they will eventually start to broadly affect the quality of our lives and those around us.

Forgiveness is the act of unchaining yourself from thoughts and feelings that bind you to an offense, imagined or real, committed against you. It is a commitment to a process of growth and change. The first step is to recognize the value of forgiveness and the positive impact it can have in our lives. When we forgive, we release the control and power of the offending person and stop playing the victim. We no longer define our lives by how we have been hurt and instead can define ourselves by how we have grown.

Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were. Cherie Carter-Scott

Luke 6:35-38;42But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." ... How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Chritianity is based of Love & Forgiveness too

"If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility." -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

 Forgiveness is the greatest gift that you can give.

This video is about forgiveness. It is also to pay tribute to the Virginia Tech students that were effected by the Shootings.

Christianity is the only religion which talks abt forgiveness so seriously , in some religion there is no room for forgiveness, some talks hightly about compassion but they act like really wicked people

What a tragedy ! :(

Forgiving someone for a wrong done to you personally is indeed highly morale and noble. It is a process that happens in your mind and no one else is affected by it except you and the forgiven party. This has nothing to do with a religion, but is individual to oneself. Many religions promote such acts.

But forgiving for the damage done by same wrong act to society should be dealt by the society and forgiveness is rarely part of the process. A crime done against the society should be punished accordingly. This is why there are laws and a society approved sentence system. The system is built to give justice.

The process of confession and forgiveness in Christianity is really difficult to grasp for me in this context. I would be sent to eternal hell fire just because I refuse to believe in/love my father. But any one can go and do murder and repent his crimes sincerely and he will be given a place in heaven. I don't see a fair system at all.

It is very simple we know that LOVE can not do anything harm to others Heavenly father not just ask you to love him only further he said "love another" but true love only comes from GOD

Yes if it is no law giver just like want buddist b'live forgiveness is also not possible, by chance bad deeds may bring good results who knows , to whom you can camplain :baffled: but in Christianity there is a LAw & law giver & there is a condition for recieving forgiveness

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14

there is no forgiveness in Buddhism? (because there is no law giver) there is no forgiveness in Islam , only qualification is just to pray 5 times a day and be a muslim

but in Christianity the story is much different, being a born Christian can not save you

Actually one must be born again in spirit to inherit his kingdom , one should forgive others to recieve his forgiveness

most importantly we can see no matter how human try to be good or do good deeds they can not be good for atleast for 2 days God know how diffcult it is to be spiritually good that is why he promise to send "the Holy spirit" when the spirit comes it will chance you by 360 degrees

Now you can see Buddhist people can not even bear this comments

This guy seems to be very big liar, keep on promoting his religion without even checking what nonsense his religion got and what Good things other religions has. Hey you r not a representative of Islam, to say Islam has no forgiveness, please keep refrain from talking something which you don't know.

Here few example of Quran about forgiveness

Noble Verse 42:40 "The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) Loveth not those who do wrong."

Allah Almighty loves those who restrain anger: "Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men; for Allah loves those who do good. (The Noble Quran, 3:134)"

Now what about your so called forgiveness bible's cruelty.

Numbers 31:17 "Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

Also, let us look at Numbers 31:35-40 "[From the captives of war] 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.......of which the tribute for the LORD was 32 [virgin women]."

Hosea 2:4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

Ezekiel 23:45-48 (King James Version)
45: And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands. 46: For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled. 47: And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.
48: Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

Deuteronomy 25
11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts,
12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

well I am sorry it is there is a verse for forgiveness in Quran

actully because of many violance verse I may have missed it I am sorry for that brother

regarding that bible verse I have a counter question for you

what did the quran or Allah says about previous revelation of GOD? do you b'live it or not

please answer

other thing is anyone can stay any beautiful verse regarding love and kindness but it is very hard to practise it or set an example

We know Lord Buddha's chatactor is very good , he not only preached but also practise it by setting an example , there we respect him

likwise we Know lot of people got it wrong specially the old testament (satan has taken full advantages from it) that is why God came to this world to set an example

We all know the story of Mohomed there is no ground that muslims can justify kills immoral acts including pedophilia

Islam is only religion talks about getting 77 vergins no muslims can explain why

I think coming of Jesus give light to the world about true GOD, Jesus truely brought glory to GOD not by killing but by loving

So again I am sorry about my mistake I do not want to promote my religion rather I want to spread the good news to the whole world

to find out truth sometime you need to reveal other disguide truth as well

anyway let us always speak the truth

Sometimes we have no answers right?

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.

Quran (8:65) - "O Prophet, exhort the believers to fight..."

Quran (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

"People of the Book" refers to Christians and Jews. This was one of the final "revelations" from Allah and it set in motion the tenacious military expansion, in which Muhammad's companions managed to conquer two-thirds of the Christian world in just the next 100 years. Islam is intended to dominate all other people and faiths.

As I always telling my people Islam is the only religion that there is no turning back , in Buddhism or Christianity no one keep you by forced but Allah ask them to kill all the unb'livers

do you think allah is "full of merciful" ?

Are you saying religion is equal to Christianity or Buddhism??

However I see an error in my post and a way it could have been misunderstood.

It should be corrected as while some religions do have somethings to do with such acts, people without religions also practice such good acts. Therefor such acts can be there without the practice of religion. It is not unique to religions.

Yes I know there is no answer for that question. Real story or not. You slipped away from that one nicely.

No I do not believe in Law of Karma.
