Is the "Right Reverend" Rayappu Joseph a citizen of Sri Lanka or that of the mythical Tamil Eelam? This question has been prompted by a meeting he had last week with the LTTE political head and former Tiger 'police' chief B. Nadesan – successor to 'Brigadier' S.P. Thamilselvan, the so-called peace dove.
Rev. Rayappu Joseph, Bishop of Mannaar Diocese, met B. Nadesan, the terrorist LTTEs political head
The meeting, according to the LTTE terrorist websites , was on humanitarian issues pertaining to people displaced allegedly by the anti-Tiger operations of the Sri Lankan Security Forces. It appears that Rayappu Joseph considers LTTE a legally constituted body and therefore Nadesan has official powers to make decisions on these matters.
This is akin to a clergyman going to meet a bandit chief to discuss the issue of bystanders who may have got injured when the police fired on a gang of bandits.
We do not think that the "Right Reverend" has to be reminded that the problems of a country's citizens have to be discussed not with international proscribed terrorist outfit but with the legally constituted government of the country in question.
