Torrential rains causing havoc in Sri Lanka
Sept 28, Colombo: Heavy rains continued in many parts of Sri Lanka today as one death and many damages were reported due to floods and torrential showers.
Southern Province Galle district is the worst affected. Elpitiya - Pitigala road was flooded as the Gin Ganga overflowed.
The fate of a family that lived at the foot of a mountain was in doubts as their house was completely under water by the evening and there was no news about the family.
Around 450 families in Ambalangoda were also displaced by floods.
A 27-year-old man who went to watch floods disappeared in the waters at Karandeniya in Galle district.
Badulla District Secretary issued warning to people living close to the banks of Badulu Oya River that was almost over spilling.
Flash floods inundated two rooms of magistrates at the Mount Lavinia court premises in the outskirts of Colombo city disrupting normal procedures of the court today.
Authorities have urged residents in the flood affected areas to take precautions.
