@ RLR : the issue here is that these nuts are arguing, just by looking at some private part photos, that the girls in them are sluts and whores. Further that girls should not be having any socializing even though thats ok for boys. Its this bigotry that some of us are speaking against.

I think the thread starter has a clear point. But we can do nothing to prevent them from doing that. It's their right and what they want. So let them be it. But we, who don't admire such kind of behaviors don't have to be like them.

I don't have friends like them. But I have friends who do drink and smoke. But I don't. So when they drink or smoke what I do is I simply avoid them with my other friends who also don't drink nor smoke. It's just simple as that.

There are many kinds of people in the society. You don't wanna be like them, you don't be like them. You don't wanna marry one like them, you simply don't marry one of them. I can't imagine my drunk wife turn up late midnight from a night club. But there are people who don't give a shit. And they demand the same freedom also.

But the risk is nowadays the Sri Lankan society tends to be dragged into these kind of social backgrounds with intention or not. It's not good. The balance of the society will be lost when that happens. That's the main point the thread starter trying to prove. It's so pathetic that you guys who promotes these social backgrounds trying to reject him and to condemn his point of view.

It's important to understand that the majority of this country don't do what you do. So you better do what you do within your social limits and at the same time respect the majority.

    .

Look, this is not about respect for the majority and lack of thereof. This is about the thread starter posting some people's photos on the internet and trying to label them as prostitutes and so on. What we are trying to tell is that while he's entitled to whatever opinion he has, what he's not entitled to is bashing other people's lifestyles simply because he doesn't agree with them. Like you said, if he doesn't like what they do, he should not do those things or marry a girl like that. It doesn't give him any right to try to force his morals and opinions on other people.
Nobody condemned his view. What they condemned was his condemnation of other people's views.

If somebody acts like this, it's because they want to. This is a democracy and no one should be telling other people what to do. Society changes. Dress code changes. What is right today will be wrong tomorrow. That is how it has always been. Just because our people practiced polygamy in the past, doesn't mean we do it now, right? So telling the society will be imbalanced because of this is total BS. (Ironically, that is what they said about universal free education and education and social rights for women. They said it would 'imbalance the society'.)

(I don't go clubbing simply because I don't find that entertaining. I wear denims and baggy T's just because I like them. That doesn't hive me any right to criticize people who do go clubbing and wear mini-skirts. That is their right.)

Imagine if this was the other way round. What if this was the country where the total opposite was the accepted mode of life, and people who don't party and don't date were considered losers? (There are countries like that, you know.) So does the majority then have the right to insult us for being virgins and wearing 'decent' (boring) clothes? How would you react then? Would you say that it is their view and we have to respect the majority view? Everything is relative. Being the majority (if that is so) doesn't give you the right to insult minorities without any retribution. All the problems in this country originated from that sort of thinking. The minority should respect the majority, but the majority can say any crap about the minorities and limit their freedom.

All in all, you can't be a bigoted jerk without having other people be jerks to you in return. Nobody here criticized the Sri Lankan way of life. It is just that everyone has a right to live their own lives the way they want, which the thread starter doesn't believe in. Live and let live!

@ Gihan: I was mainly talking about the thread starter, the Kandahar guy. And yes I didn't go through the whole thread. And I'm not defending individuals.

@ Kos: Either you're completely misguided or you simply wanna defend your point of view so intentionally avoiding the apparent. The thread starter was pointing at prostitution and hookers. And he showed us some pictures. The authenticity of those I don't know, and I don't care. What I care is what he pointed out.

Does it really matter whether they are hookers or not? The real question would be is there are hookers and such kind of an so called open cultured group of people. The answer is yes. So won't they affect the society in a bad way? When someone questions that apparent chaos you guys going on questioning the authenticity of the photos. Okay he can't prove they are hookers. But can you prove they are not? You can't either.

And honestly don't you see there is something abnormal about the way they are. Do you really behave like them when you go clubbing. I mean can you just look away when you see your sister or girlfriend wearing a mini skirt or a short squeezing in between 3 men. If you can then you have some serious problems mate.

Yes, everyone go clubbing are not sluts. You guys may go there to have fun with your friends. But there is a whole different aspect of it as well.
And how you differentiate the hookers and normal girls in clubs? If those photos are not of hookers then they must be normal girls right? But I don't hesitate twice to label them as sluts. That is the real problem for normal people. They are actually not unethical. But they also have to bear the evil tag. So you guys starting to claim not everyone there are sluts. So it's not our problem. The problem is yours. If normal girls have to be like in those photos to have fun, then they have some serious mental issues.

I'll just point out 2 or 3 facts.

He condemned prostitution. So you are condemning his point of view means you're promoting prostitution.

"What if this was the country where the total opposite was the accepted mode of life, and people who don't party and don't date were considered losers?"

This is not that kind of a country. But you may haven't seen that the latter part was already stated in this thread. How come?

The majority rules everywhere. It's not a matter of our country. And my personal opinion is it doesn't matter people of those social background doing what they want within their limits. I don't admire them. That's it. But please don't complain about someone who's pointing out the people who exceed their limits becoming a social chaos.

again the issue here is different. the issue here is the assumption you and most others are making that by wearking short skirts or bikinis, they are not 'normal' girls and are sluts. What exactly is a 'normal' girl and what exactly is a slut ?
Its against this discrimination that we are arguing. You are saying I'm avoiding certain issues, look at the way people have responded to rgirl and the things they've said to her.
As for the question of prostitution, I have no problems with it as long as the people are not abused or taken advantage from it. If you want a serious discussion about this, email me as we wont be able to have any real discussion here with the type of people who has posted here so far.

That is not what was said here bro. If he just condemned prostitution, everybody here would have agreed with him. I personally think prostitution is horrible. It demeans a human being so much, to the point that she has fallen to giving up the control of her body to somebody else for money. I dislike that concept. But what the thread starter did here was picking a certain group of people and condemning them as prostitutes just based on some photos, and generally bashing their way of life. That is what the other posters objected to. This was not a thread posted to express opinions about prostitution. It was about inciting hate against a certain sub-culture. (Another thing is that the definition of prostitution is giving sexual favours for money. I hardly think that majority of the type of people that you mention do what they do for money. They simply act like that because they want to. That in itself is not prostitution. Just the fact that I wouldn't do it myself doesn't mean that they also have to abstain from it.)

Majority rules in matters of state. What majority cannot do is to tell other minorities how they should behave. (For example, I dislike certain aspects of Muslim culture. But that does not give me any right to tell Muslim women to remove their hijabs or tell them to stop eating meat.) How exactly did the people in those photos cause social chaos? If they have caused harm to someone else with what they did, then we should condemn them. Otherwise, if all concerned are doing it out of their free will, it is not really our business. (Again for example, if the above mentioned Muslims start marrying off under-age kids forcibly like in Middle Eastern countries, then I will oppose it. as long as they do things by their own will, it's none of my business.)

I neither admire them nor hate them. It's simply another way of life. Why should we mind about their business?

lankawa diyunu karanne amaru me wage un nisa thamai,,... a country has to be liberal in order to be developed. do u want sri lanka to be north korea? Sri lanka is so concervative to the point where u cannot accept the life styles of another person. there will be new concepts and innovation rising in the country. if u cannot accept the liberal concept the country will remain the same. dnt get me wrong. im not talking about anything political its just a fact. and nothing is western our eastern anymore. its a global culture we are heading towards. if u cannot accept it, expect the country to be an equalent to n. korea.

seems like you have drifted lil bit from your original mood in the thread. but any way this is the truth. main stream will one day either append the sub-culture or if it really harm the main stream then the sub culture will be rejected. but that will happen one day eventually. no point arguing here and there.

They are not Joking! or trying to insult you! But they Really think that way!
But i dont Think So...I mean Right now I dont think you are!

Females can do whatever they want like males do. there shouldn't be a double standards for that. in fact you gotta remember being an infidel doesn't solve troubles. understand the reality. females have been oppressed for centuries just for religious and cultural traditions? why females are cornered at each time just because females are physically inferior? and what's wrong with having breasts? a vagina? you also came out from a vagina though you seem to forget it. you got fed by breasts and you also forgot it. in your whole childhood you used to stay with your mother ,closed to her. and your first teacher was your mother. and she is a woman. in the society females got great responsibilities and she acts a great role on it. but still they are oppressed by useless man made traditions. the Wild Law is Stronger one will be dominant. but keep in mind which doesn't apply to a civilized law. I ain't be furious upon you. it seems you are a small kiddo. I suggest you never make a glad eye on a woman even she is in naked, it's really inappropriate and rude. imagine if someone looks at you in inappropriate way how do you feel that? if someone tries to touch your genital area. do you allow for that? I meant if that person is a male or a granny. :P
the same thing applies for the females too. both got feelings. you only think about one side. think from various sides.

My mood is still the same. :D It just makes my blood boil to see people go after others just because they dress and act differently. What the hell? If they find it okay to act so, why should we care? Don't we have other problems in our lives? I think consenting adults can do whatever they want without hurting anyone else. I don't have anything against clubs or bikinis either. You want them, you have them.

I also hate these double standards for men and women. Men can do or say anything. But women can't even express opinions. That makes her a slut. Oh, the injustice!
