While the media has carried her story already, we believe that the complete narrative has been missing from the published stories. We chose to publish this story because many Sri Lankan women undergo similar situations on a daily basis, intimidated into sexual intercourse, violently raped and still living with scars that will not go away without a proper reporting mechanism in place. We don’t report the heinous crimes committed against us as women. Maybe this story of this one brave girl who has endured so much in the span of a few months in Sri Lanka will give all of us the strength to no longer be quiet about these violent situations that we encounter, read and hear about. Perhaps her story will help us all find the courage to come forth in spite of the persecutions and judgment we may face in the process of getting justice.
