Train crash: 3 dead

Three persons were killed and 33 others injured when a Polgahawela bound Colombo train rammed into the rear of another train heading in the same direction for Kandy.

Those killed were the driver and his assistant of the Polgahawela bound train and a foreign national, Sri Lanka Railway spokesman said.

The incident took place around 5.00 pm at Alawwa Junction on Saturday.
Divaina correspondent for Alawwa, Anil Sudasinghe who was at the scene of the accident told Sandesaya that the observation car of the Kandy bound train was completely destroyed.

The injured persons have been admitted to the Alawwa and Kurunegala hospitals.

Officials said that rescue operations are underway and suspect that there are passengers trapped inside the wreckage.

Yup I was on that train,thank god I'm(and my mother and sister) not injured.
but the place was a total mess,lot of people were injured,most are minor injuries tho.

i was too on the train next to the 1st class compartment,last 2nd class one,i saw 1st class one moved apart from us & felt the shock too, RIP who died on the accident

I really don't get how this happen bro,I mean seriously our train moved backward and hit that train ?
Didn't felt like we were moving till the sudden noise and shock

Yup I was on that train,thank god I'm(and my mother and sister) not injured.
but the place was a total mess,lot of people were injured,most are minor injuries tho.

Didn't felt like we were moving till the sudden noise and shock

no malli,AFAIH we were planning to push the broken train in front of us to clear the track.then powerset came from behind & hit us,as i on the last,i only felt we moved after the collision
