Louise Gray is in Sri Lanka where she has witnessed efforts to save native turtle species, all of which are now endangered

Turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in the beach...

... and head back to the sea, leaving the eggs defenceless

In the past, the eggs would have been sold for food or dug up by stray dogs. Today they were collected by the Turtle Conservation Project in Sri Lanka to be hatched in captivity

The eggs are incubated for about two months and the baby turtles reared until they are just a few inches long before they are returned to the wild

Louise gives one of the baby turtles a helping hand as it is set free

It seems reluctant at first, but is soon washed into the sea along with his brothers and sisters

Actually one the most important thing is to protect their habitat, because as I've heard these turtles once they are born and go out to the sea, no matter how long they swim across or stay in the sea they will always come back to the exact place where they were born to lay their eggs (still a mystery how exactly they do this)!!!!

Anyway... all these areas where they lay eggs must be identified and protected... Sri Lanka is very lucky to have these kind of Bio-Diversity actually!!! Amazing creature!!
