Machan i'm was using Ubuntu 8.04 with windows VISTA... Ubuntu is a great OS and the graphics are awesome, U don't need to install a Antivirus software cause there are no viruses for Ubuntu linux , Even it took my modem automatically (I did not install any drivers for it) as software for windows there are software for Ubuntu also ( If u need to install a new software go to add or remove and install, it's that easy)

    Machang, It's easy to find.

    Go to http://www.ubuntu.com/
and you can download the desktop edition (Version 8.x)
The download size is arround 699mb
Just the maximum size we can write to a CD.

    This is open source.
That means it's free to download and free to distribute.

    Looks good.
You can either install it within windows, or you can install as a separate operating system in a separate partition.

    It has many drivers inbuilt.
So, you don't have to install almost any driver.
You don't have to install office, as open office is already included in Ubuntu.

You can freely upgrade the software online.
During my first upgrade, it consumed about 200MB,
So, it looks like it has upgraded many things during the first upgrade.

    After that, only small upgrades.
You can select what to upgrade.

When we don't have windows, it looks like a good option.
Some people like it more than windows.

Ubuntu CD can be used as a bootable CD.
You can start in Ubuntu, without installing ubuntu,
and aafter you shut down, nothing of the hard disk content will be changed.

    Machang,

What I downloaded and installed was the CD version.
    It's size was about 699MB.
The maxdimum size we can put into a CD.

But after installation, during first update, it consumed about 200MB.
So, i think most of the necessary drivers have been downloaded,

And there may be no much difference from the DVD version.

Using internet through Ubuntu 8.x is patta fast machang.

    Machang,
    Thanks,

I think you meant, the add/ remove in Ubuntu 8.x works as a search engine for Ubuntu 8.x compatible software.

    I'll do that.

But, there are some software which are originally designed for the windows platform.

We are used/ addicted to some of those software.
So, there should be a way to run those software on Ubuntu 8.x platform as well.

So, what you tell is very important.

Tell us more about WineHQ .

This is going to be very useful.

1.0) Have you got an idea about how it really does that.
Does that convert that file or does it make another some sort of platform for us to run windows based software.

2.) How does the Ubuntu gets installed on top of windows.

Most important question is, "What is WineHQ?, and from where we can download it"

u can download wine through the add/remove thing or just type
""sudo apt get-install wine" in the terminal....wine makes a platform to windows softwear..bt it wont suit 4 the every win softwear...bt it will b 4 most of them....

u can use cedega if u want to play much biger win games..,,bt dnt 4get their are so many native ubuntu games as well.....

I also installed Ubantu in last november I think..yea..its a superb OS..no need to worry about drivers, and any other things..simple OS..there are some antivirs software in the net..but i think no need to install antivirus bcoz there is not a huge threat for Open source Applications..i think
